German Plane’s Attempt
TO SET NEW NON-STOP RECORD.
[Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.] BERLIN, November 28. A Fockewulk aeroplane has left Berlin for Tokio in an attempt on the non-stop distance flight record established by the British Vickers Wellesley bombers on their recent flight from Egypt to Australia. KARACHI* November 29. The Fockewulf left for Hanoi, (Received November 30, 11.40 pm;.) BERLIN, November 30. The German Focke-Wulf Condor aeroplane arrived at Hanoi, and left for Tokio at 2.42 a.m. ENGLAND-EGYPT RECORD., (Received November 30, 11.40 p.m.) ALEXANDRIA, November 30. The plane Mercury arrived here at 6.22 a.m. after a record flight of fourteen hours six minutes from Southampton.
“Calpurnia” Disaster
SALVAGING OF MAILS. WELLINGTON, November 30. The Director-General, of the New Zealand Postal Department advises as follows! —“The British Post Office advises that the flying boat “Calpurnia”, which rrashed at Habbaniyah, in Iraq had 60 bags of mail for New Zealand, which were despatched about the 24th of November. Salvage is proceeding. BAGHDAD, November 29.
Divers are working on the Calpurnia’s wreckage, and it is believed that the three men missing are under the forepart of the machine which Is the most damaged and submerged. Sixty sodden mailbags have already been salvaged, in addition to hundreds of letters, by boats of the R.A.F. Sailing Club, retrieved while floating on the surface of the lake.
