Inward correspondence.—The Secretary read a letter from the Secretary of the Auckland Trotting and Breeders’ Association, asking this committee to consider the formation of a Dominion Council in order to secure wider recognition at the Trotting and Racing Conferences.—The matter was left over for the present. The Secretary stated that there were only 23 financial members of the Buller Association. Many country owners had dropped out, and he had found out that it was a waste of money and time writing to them, as they never answered. Opinions were expressed by other members that it would be a pity to see this Association die for the want of a larger membership. Mr J. Scanlon moved that the subscription fees be increased from 2s 6d to ss. The motion was carried. The Secretary was granted a donation in appreciation of his untiring work.

Hector Branch W.E.A.: A fair attendance of members and friends met at the Hector School on Friday evening, when Mr G. J. Garner, M.A., tutor-organiser of the W.E.A., Wellington, gave an interesting address on the work done by the W.E.A. The speaker was introduced by Mr Tonks, of the Westport Branch. Messrs F. Theobald, S. Barnes and L. McKendry then pointed out the difficulties which the Hector Branch had to contend with since its formation. The “box scheme” had failed owing to inability in obtaining the boxes chosen. The “discussion” course was not successful because there was no leader, and no library for reference. A series of lectures by local speakers has now been arranged. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr Garner for his instructive address, after which supper was served by the ladies.
