HOTEL BURGLARY
SAFE WHEELED AWAY. ROTORUA, May 26. i A daring robbery took place early this morning, when a small safe containing approximately £l3O in cash and cheques was removed from the olliee of the Lake House Hotel. Ohinemutu, and taken away from the build-' ing in a wheelbarrow. The thieves,' who are believed to number two? gained entry 7 to the premises by forcing the lock on the back door. i
I In order that their efforts to move' the safe would not disturb the licen-, see, Mr F. G. Fraser, or the guests, l cushions were collected from settees in the lounge and sitting room and placed on the floor, so that, Ihe safe could be removed silently out of ihe, front door. Outside the safe was ap-, parently placed on a wheelbarrow and wheeled away, probably to a ■ waiting car further down the :oad. | It is stated lhat a female employee.' hearing the noise of the wheelbarrow travelling along the road, looked out of the window of her room and saw two men wheeling some bulky object away, but not knowing that they had come from the hotel no alarm was raised. It was not until later in the, morning that the theft was discover-,' ed.
