Mr A. E. Werry, headmaster of the Randwick School, Wellington, has retired after forty-eight years in the teaching service.
By a unanimous vote, Mr J. A. McLean was re-elected chairman of the North Auckland Electric Power Board Mr McLean has been chairman since *1924, and a member since 1916.
■ The British Prime Minister Mr N. Chamberlain presided at the first of the weekly meetings of Cabinet since the Ministerial changes were announced. Mr Chamberlain’s gout is understood to be considerably better.

■ The funeral of the late John Samuel Lane took place on Wednesday afternoon, at the Karoro Cemetery, The services at the residence of deceased’s sister, Mrs. C. Corbin, Bryon Street, and at the graveside, were conducted by Rev. W. Wills.
Mr Justice Quilliam, appointed temporary judge of the Supreme Court .Was sworn in by the Chief Justice at Hamilton on Wednesday. He arrived at Wellington yesterday, and will ,11081- undefended divorce petitions, to'day. ' ‘ J

'The London “Evening News" announces the engagement of the sixty•five year old Polish »obleman Prince [Michael Radiziwill. Io Mis. Hanii . Stewart Dawson, formerly of Melbourne. Prince Radziwill is a cousin of the ex-Kaiser. Mrs Dawson says she will be married probably next week.
Captain A. Vigna arrived in Wellington recently from Italy to take up an appointment as Secretary the New Zealand Consul for Italy. Captain Vigna was a former resident of Runanga, having resided there from 1935 until last year when he left on return to Italy with his fam-.
