MAORI WORKER KILLED IN gravel pit. PALMERSTON NORTH, May 18. While working in a pit at Mount Biggs, near Feilding, this afternoon,, a Maori, Peter Reweti, aged 29, was killed by a fall of gravel. Reweti came from the Bulls district. MILL . WORKER’S CLASP. CHRISTCHURCH, May 18. Oliver Kitson, aged 54, married, of Sewell Street, Kaiapoi, the foreman of the spinning department at the Kaiapoi woollen mills, collapsed and died suddenly while at work this afternoon. FARM LABOURER’S SUICIDE. DUNEDIN, May 19. That death was due to poison selfadministered, was the Coroner’s verdict at the inquest, this inornnig, on Victor Charles Whittaker, 21, single, farm labourer, employed near Gore Deceased’s married sister deposed that he came to her house on Sunday last looking depressed, stating he had a disagreement with a girl with whom he was keeping company, at a place near Gore. Yesterday she went to town, leaving him alone in the house. Police evidence disclosed the finding of a bottle of poison, and a letter expressing the intention to commit suicide. SUDDEN DEATH. WHILE DRIVING MOTOR-CAR. AUCKI.AND, May 19. After collapsing at the wheel of his car. shortly before midday, Albert James Thompson, aged 54, was found to be dead. The car mounted a pavement, and struck the wall of a hotel on a corner, but little damage was done. Thompson was a saw and knife manufacturer. He was driving with his partner, A. D. Sims, and was turning the car from Wellesley Street into Queen Street. LATER. Albert James Thompson, who collapsed and died while driving a car, accompanied by A. D. Sims, his business partner, collapsed after the vehicle had turned out of Albert Street, into Wellesley Street, falling against Sims. The car, which was travelling at a very slow pace, crossed a footpath and struck the wall of the hotel at the corner, the left mudgua rd on the car being crumpled, but no other damage was done. A nurse who was passing gave assistance, but Thompson was dead before an ambulance arrived. Young Maori Woman FOUND SHOT AT PA. WHAKATANE, May 19 A married Maori woman, aged 17,
with no children, named Waimatau Onekawa, was found dead as the result of a gunshot wound, at the Matahui Pa. The circumstances of the tragedy indicate suicide. A gun was found beside the body, which had been propped up by a box and pillows. A string had been attached to the trigger, and there was a fatal wound in the breast.
