ANZAC DAY IN LONDON

HIGH COMMISSIONER AT SERVICES. Anzac Day commemoration services were held in and near London on Sunday and Monday, the 24th and 25th April, and the High Commissioner and Mrs Jordan took part in most of them.

On the Sunday Mr and Mrs Jordan attended a service at Holy Trinity Church, Eltham. Kent, of which the Vicar is Rev. Henry A. Hall, M.A., late Divisional Chaplain of the 29th Division, who was present at the landing.

The sermon was preached by the Lord Bishop of Woolwich. The High Commissioner took part in the service. He placed a wreath inscribed “From the Government and People of New Zealand.” Amongst the wreaths was one from the Auckland Branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association.

On the Monday a service of remembrance was held at St. Clement Danes, Strand, the official Anzac church in London. Mr Jordan read the second lesson, from the twentyfirst chapter of the Book of Revelations, and Miss Christina Young, a New Zealand member of the Coronation choir, sang Sullivan’s "God shall wipe away all tears.” Mr Jordan and the Rt. Hon. S. M Bruce laid wreaths at the church’s shrine in memory of their fallen countrymen.

At a ceremony at the Cenotaph the High Commissioner laid a wreath of poppies on behalf of the Government and people of New Zealand, and General Sir Alexander Godley laid one from the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association. In the afternoon Mrs Jordan unveiled at the Cenotaph a wreath in ice sent by the Auckland branch of the Mothers’ Union.

On Monday evening the High Commissioner was represented by Colonel R, G. Milligan, D. 5.0., 0.8. E., at an Ahzac service at St. Mary’s Church at W.alton-on-Thames, where so many New Zealanders were in hospital during the war.
