Yesterday’s Prices [Our Own Correspondent.] CHRISTCHURCH, May 18. At the Addington market to-day, the fat cattle entry numbered 595 head. The quality was very good. The market opened on a par witn last week, but eased as the sale progressed to the extent of 15s per head all round. Later all sorts were hard to quit. Best beef sold to 34s per 109 lbs. Extra prime heavy steers realised £l6 17s 6d, prime heavy steers £l2 5s to £l4, prime medium weight £ll to £l2 ss, ordinary steers £9 to £4 15s. There was a large entry of veal, which had a fair sale. Best runners sold to £6 8s 6d. The store cattle were a fair entry There was a quiet, keen sale, with prices in advance of recent rates; The fat lambs entry totalled 1,150 The quality was fair. There was a keen demand from the butchers, lambs selling to 81d per lb., and other sorts going to the freezing companies. It was the best sale for some time. Best lambs sold to £lO 10s, light steers to £8 15s. Extra prime heifers sold up to £ll 17s 6d, prime heifers £7 5s to £9; medium heifers £6 5s to £7 ss,

light heifers to £6. Extra prime cows sold to £lO 17s 6d, prime cows £7 to £8 10s, medium cows £5 to £6 10s, light cows to 36s 7d. The fat sheep entry was larger than last week. There was a slightlv easier tone. The quality' generally was better. There was a slight firming as the sale progressed, through cutside competition. On the average, all values were back by Is a I head. Best ewes sold to 28s 4d, and I best wethers to -35 s Id. The store sheep were a small entry, and for the most part poor conditioned sorts, these selling at late rates. The wethers forward included a choice entry of approximately SOO of two, four, and six-tooths, these averaging 20s 3d. Others forward were selling from 18s to 22s 3d. The pork pigs forward comprised a heavy supply, but there was an excellent sale for quality sorts. Others were easier. Baconers were in short supply, and showed advances of 2s to 3s per head. Light pork fetched 29s 6d to 40s 6d, medium pork 42s 6d to 48s 6d, and heavy pork 52s 6d to . 59s 6d ; the price per lb. being 6id to 7d. Light baconers fetched £3 Is 6d ■to £3 9s 6d, medium bacon £3 12s 6d to £3 19s 6d, and heavy bacon £4 Is 6d , to £5 7s 6d, the price per lb. being 6’,d to 63d. I There was a small entry of store • pigs. Weaners were in short sup- ' ply, showing an advance of 2s. Slips were firmer. Stores were hard to quit. Weaners fetched 7s to 12s, slips Us to 14s, and stores 16s to 29s „< 6d.
