“The suggestion was made the other day by the morning paper- that I should mention the hign wages and that I should say that they ought not to go any higher,” said the Prime Minister, the Right Hon. M. J. Savage, in his speech at the Wellington Town Hall. “I am invited to say that we have gone as far as we can go, but I’m not going to say anything of the kind; I say we have not gone half the journey,” he added, amidst applause. "If Labour’s opponents get back they will spend less money.” A voice: “Too n'ght they will.” “Then we will see the old clothes drives again,” said Mr. Savage. "Any Government that reduces the buying power of the people, lays the foundation for another depression.” (Ap plause).
