Regent Theatre

A well-diversified programme, ’ inI eluding “Artists and Models,” starr- , ing Jack Benty, Andre Kostelanetz and his orchestra, Ida Lupino, Rich • ard Arlen and Gael Patrick, will today and to-night be screened for the last time at the Regent Theatre. “TRUE CONFESSION” How did I know that my boss wanted flirtation instead of dictation ? What was I to do ? I was only an innocent girl, and twelve pounds a week looked like fair play, even though I can’t typewrite ! That fiend in human form wanted me to smile for him, not file for him ! So I popped him on the nose, and ran out I And now they-ve found him dead, and everybody says I killed him I Sure, my husband’s a lawyer, but he says that I’ve never told the truth up to now, so he won’t believe me when I say I’m innocent—so I guess I’ll have to plead guilty, and give him a chance to prove that he’s a good enough lawyer to get me off ! I only hope I’m around long enough

to congratulate him on the victory— I hope ! You’ll see the whole cockeyed story in Paramount’s "True Confession”, when it opens on Tuesday at the Regent Theatre, with Carole Lombard playing me, Fred Mac Murray playing my husband, and John Barrymore playing around ! “HOLD ’EM NAVY.” “Hold ’Em Navy,” the new Paramount film featuring Lew Ayres, Mary Carlisle and John Howard, was photographed by Henry Sharp, A.S.C. The film, which is set in a famous naval academy, will be screened at the Regent Theatre as a second feature on Thursday and Friday, the cast including Benny Baker and Elizabeth Patterson, and was directed by Kurt Neumann. “BLOSSOMS ON BROADWAY." A goldless gold mine; a male swindler and a female rogue trying to outdo each other; a pretty girl and a G-man furnish the laughs and romance in “Blossoms on Broadway,” Paramount’s new comedy with music that opens next Thursday at the Regent Theatre. The laughs come thick and fast with Edward Arnold, Shirley Ross, John Trent, William Frawley, Weber and Fields, Rufe Davis and Kitty Kelly handling the fun. TEMPLE THRILLER. “Wee Willie Winkie,” coming on Saturday to the Regent Theatre, ~mrley Temple finds the Rudyard Kipling story her most elaborate and exciting screen production, with much thrilling action with the Scotch highlanders at the Khyber Pass. “WOMEN HAVE THEIR WAY." At the Town Hall on Wednesday evening, the delightful two-act dramatic comedy, “Women Have Their Way,” will be presented. The play, which centres round the actions of Don Julian, an Andulasian priest, is brimful of Spanish humour, being at the same time a refined presentation of the brighter .side of life in Spain. The costuming—all of which is typic ally Andalusian—is a feature well worth seeing, and special effects have been introduced.

Mrs Plank, as Concha Puerto, has undoubted acting ability, and holds together a well-selected cast, to make I the action throughout most fascinating. Other players prominent in the cast are: Juanita La Rose, Eunice Scott; Santita, Ada Smeaton; Dona Beten, Gladys Wallwork; Angela, Phyllis Bond; Pilar, Miriam Stephens; Dieguilla, Maria Courtney; A Village Girl, Peggy Stewart; Adolfo, Neil Collins; Don Julian, Frank O’Halloran; Don Cecilio, Donald Reid; Pete Nora, William Payne; Guitaira, Tim O’Farrell; Sacristan of San Antonia, Tim O’Farrell. The Marist School Choir will render a selection of songs, whilst vocal numbers will also be contributed by Mrs Plank, Messrs T. Hatch and J. Duffy. The orchestra of five players will be led by Miss M. McSherry. The performance will be presented cn Wednesday night only, and patrons should book early.
