Dairy Coy. Secretary [Per Press Association.! HAMILTON, April 29. Two charges of theft of money totalling £965/2/8, the property of the Oparau Dairy Company, were admitted by Charles Edward Crews, aged 48. company secretary, beforiJustices of the Peace in the Hamilton Magistrate’s Court. Evidence was given that the accused was appointed secretary-organ-iser of the company in October, 1934. and that the thefts occurred by drawing cheques and debiting them to various accounts between June, 1936. and November, 1936. Detective White produced a statement in which it is alleged the accused admitted stealing £965/2/8 from the company. Crews said he could claim to have been responsible for the revival of the Oparau Company and for the increase in its output and pay-out. He also restored the company’s plant to a state of efficiency. In answer to Detective White, Crews admitted that he had tampered with the books if the company. He admitted that he had spent some of the money on extravagant living, but eaid some of the expenses should rightly have been a charge against the company, Crews was admitted to the Supreme Court at Hamilton for sentence next week. DUNEDIN, April 30. When Eric Sandagger Parks, 28, described as a labourer, appeared at the Police Court, this morning, charged with the murder of Frances Amelia Lee, at Henley, on April 14, the procedings lasted only a few seconds, accused being remanded for a week. WELLINGTON, April 29. Alfred Frank Barlow, of Plimmerton, was fined £2O, in default one month’s imprisonment, on each of two charges of sly-grogging at Plimmerton and Doris May Barlow, his wife, £lO, in default 14 days’ imprisonment. The prosecutions were stated to be the result of numerous complaints of illegal sale of liquor to men employed in the public works camp. HAMILTON, April 29. For the Hamilton mayoralty there are three candidates, Messrs H. D. Caro and C. Croall, and Dr. F. D. Pinfold. The present Mayor, Mr J. R. Fow, is retiring. There are 33 candidates for 12 council seats. WELLINGTON, April 29. Imprisonment for a month and cancellation of his licence for a year were imposed on William James Reille, aged 31„ a slaughterman, for being intoxicated in charge of a car. DANNEVIRKE, April 29. Henry Leslie Thorsen, married, with no family employed by the Borough Council as lorry driver, was found this afternoon dead with his head jammed between the tip tray and the back of his lorry on a job at the Hospital hill, where he was engaged in carting spoil to a dump.
