ALPINE CLUB

GENERAL MEETING. A general meeting of the above club was held last evening, there being a good attendance. In the absence of the president, Mr T. Higgins occupied the chair. Apologies for absence were received .from Dr. W. McKay, Mr F. A. Kitchingham, and Miss D. Pound. After suitable reference had been made to the loss of the late club captain, Mr Pat Carroll, a motion of sympathy with his relatives was carried, members standing in silence. The minutes of the previous general meeting and inward and outward correspondence were read and confirmed. / An election for the position of club captain to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr P. Carroll resulted in the appointment of Mr H. H. Rattray. After a lengthy discussion, it was resolved that the club carry out the committee's 1 * recommendation and affiliate with the Federated Mountain Clubs of New Zealand, as from trie year commencing April Ist next. EASTER EXCURSION. It was decided that the excursion for the Easter holidays take the form of a trip to the Franz Josef Glaciers. In this connection, members intending to be present on that trip were requested to hand in their names to the ■club captain as early as possible. I The question of naming the hut on Kelly Range was discussed, and the unanimous decision was made that the secretary be instructed to write to the Arthur’s Pass National Park Board requesting that the hut in the course of erection on the Kelly Range be named the Carroll Memorial Hgt, and that a suitable tablet oe placed in the building, dedicating the hut to the memory of the late Patrick St. Edmund Carroll. It was considered that this would be a fitting memorial to the club’s late captain, who took a prominent part in the organisation, and voluntary transportation by club members of materials to the site of the hut.
