OVERLOADED LAUNCH
Rodney Victims’ Inquest COMMENT BY CORONER. (Received March 10, 9.55 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 10. The inquest on the Rodney launch victims was continued to-day. The police evidence was to the effect that the vessel did not appear to be overloaded. The owner, Rosman, said that he told a deckhand to send the people off the top deck, but they refused to leave. He ordered some down, but they immediately returned. The Coroner found that the deaths were accidentally caused, but said that it could not be. disputed that an excessive number of passengers had been carried.
The Rodney’s top-deck master was liable under the Navigation Act, but the evidence did not show that he was guilty of negligence that would approach to criminal negligence.
