LOUISIANA TORNADO DISASTER

50 DEAD—IOO KILLED. [Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.] NEW YORK, February 18. Leaving a path of death and wreckage, a tornado swept over the Rodessa oilfield in Louisiana. It is feared that fifty people are dead and one hundred injured. The greater part of the oilfield was destroyed. Fumes from a wrecked gas well in Rodessa threatened an explosion owing to rain keeping gas low. The* police surrounded the town and prevented people from entering. The well is running wild beside an overturned derrick.

An area three miles long and a quarter of a mile wide was devastated. After hitting Shreveport, the tornado struck an oil camp fi'C j miles north. It then hit Capps City, an unincorporated town, without organised authority, and plunged jt into darkness and a state of turmoil.
