Trotting Notes

K Kilr a ea should be worth keeping on cide in her next few races.

Z 'zincali is reputed to be the makings of a stayer, and his Wellington form entitles him to be well though of for the McDougall Handicap al the Wairarapa meeting.

Aco r*a • Acora would have been hard to beat in the Eastbourne Handicap nt Hutt Park if she had received a clear cun. She has good prospects at the Wairarapa meeting this month.

King Oro: . . A recent winner in Australia included King Oro, by Rey de OroOleda, a half-brother to the trotter Reception, who raced at Wellington, last week.

Dan’s Son: Dan’s Son, who is in the Inter- Dominion Championships, was bought ,’by his present owner for 11 guineas His winnings amount to more than £2200.

Racing Notes

Prssaform: Although he was not particularly well fancied for the Champagne Stakes, Passaform registered a promising effort when he ran second to Dunstan. He is by that very useful southern sire Balboa, from the Boniform mare Fairform, dam also of Tauramai and Charmaine, so he should be heard of later on. The King’s Cup: The King’s Cup winner, Debater, was got by Windbag from Kenna, by Kenilworth —Manganui, by Linacre ■ Regent Bird, by Malster. Dunstan: Dunstan, winner of the Champagn Stakes at Wingatui was got by Seigfried from the Tribulation mare Arbitration, the dam previously of Miss Hastings, Windward, and Mother-in-Law. He was secured at the yearling sales by P. T. Hogan for 350 guineas on behalf of Mr. J. Beattie, of Lauder. High Glee Disappoints: High Glee, who was sent out favourite for the Dunedin Cup at Wingatui on Thursday, is a lightactioned galloper who has shaped like a stayer, although, like so many of the Paladins, he carries his head rather high to be absolutely convincing in this respect. It was as a re- ; suits of a gallop at Wingatui on Tuesday morning that he came so much, into favour, but he rather let his host of backers down on the day He is bred to stay, for he is out of the useful race mare Real Glad, who was by Gay Lad from Honesty, a Martian mare whose dam was The Officer mare Success, who traces back to imported Hammock (bv Orest). The best-known members from Success and Honesty are Kilwinning, a winner of the Great Northern Derby, and Killowen, a winner of the Winter Cup._ Howevei several of the progeny of both, mares were mediocre. Honesty’s best win was in the Invercargill Cup. Laggard: Laggard, a Lackham gelding who loves the heavy stuff, has resumed work at Trentham in preparation for the winter session. Might: Might returned from a spell at Blenheim last week, and it ils hoped to have him ready for racing on the Nelson-Marlborough circuit. Caution: The name Caution has been claimed for a two-year-old colt by Inflation from the Romeo mare Lady [Court, who won races at Trentham after having been brought south by

the former Ellerslie trainer, J. Manuel. Well Named: There is quite a fitting meaning to the name claimed for the two-year-old colt by Inflation from True Step, for the youngster will race as Deflation. The dam was got by -Benzonian from the Martian mare Marfaux, who also produced the former good performer Blimp. Another Double Winner. In winning both the Taranaki and Egmont Cups in the same autumn. Sergia performed a feat that has been by no means unusual. The races are generally run with only a week between them, and victory in the one event has many times been repeated in the other. Back in 1904 and 1905 Convoy and Paritutu respectively took the double but it was not till fourteen years later that Afterglow achieved the same distinction in 1919. Since Afterglow’s year no less than eight other horses have won the double, these being Kick Off (1923), Stork (1925), Piuthair (1927), Hynanna (1928), Yoma (1929), Arikira (1932), Aussie Ra (1936) and Sergia (this year). RACING FIXTURES. February 18, 19 —Winton Jockey Club. February 19— Tolaga Bay Jockey Club. February 19, 21—Waikato Racing Club. February 19, 21—Woodville Jockey Club. TROTTING FIXTURES. February 19—New Brighton Trotting Club. February 26—Kaikoura Trotting Club. February 26—Wairarapa Trotting Club.
