The weather report and forecast are as follows: — General situation: Pressure is still rather high east of the Dominion, but a depression is centred to-day west of the South Island, and a deep westerly depression is now moving from south-eastern Australia on to the Tasman Sea. Forecast: Moderate to strong, northerly to north-westerly winds, rising to gale force about and south of Cook Strait. Seas (N.Z. waters): Rather rough to rough about Cook Strait; elsewhere. slight to moderate, but rising on the west coast of the South Island, and in the Foveaux Strait area. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate northerly winds in the northern portion, with moderate seas; strong and squally north-westerly to westerly winds, and rather rough to rough seas in the southern portion. Weather cloudy to overcast, with intermittent rain in most districts, but improving temporarly to-morrow, especially in the eastern areas. Temperatures warm to moderate.
