CLERICAL WORKERS

AUCKLAND AWARD. AUCKLAND, December 14. Decisions on matters referred to the Court were contained in the Northern Industrial District Clerical Workers’ Award, which was released by the Arbitration Court to-day. It was the first award to be made to govern clerical and office staffs in the northern industrial district. The principal matters referred to the Court related to wages, proportion, exclusion of executives, and several minor clauses. The Court settled the matters in dispute on the lines of the two existing awards in force in the Wellington industrial district. “Owing to exceptional circumstances, the Court has decided, in this case, to make the operation of the wages clause retrospective to October 18. 1937.” states a memorandum contained in the award.
