LOur Own Correspondent]. The public meeting called for last Thursday evening to elect a Committee of seven as the local Domain Board took place in the Public Hall The attendance was only moderate. Twelve residents allowed themselves to be nominated, and the ballot resulted in the following being elected: Mesdames M. Hansen and E. Shearer, and Messrs F. Ferguson, W. Thiele junr., T. Kelly, W. Searle, junr., and E. Kirby. Three of the previous Board members failed to hold their seats, Mrs. Rowley, Messrs W. Searle, senr., and J. Lucas. The newly formed Committee meets in February, the old Board remaining in office until the new one" is approved of by the Governor-General.
Mr. Edward Walsh who has been employed here by the Public Works Department was taken ill very suddenly one day last week, and was removed to the residence of his sister Mrs. T. Nolan of Wataroa. The latest reports state that "Fred” is progressing favourably. Mr. Stubbs of the Co-operative Pig Market Association paid a brief visit here last week.
Mr. and Mrs. W. Berry, who have been on an extended visit to the North Island, have returned. Mrs. Nichol of The “Pines.” Evans Creek, paid a brief visit to Greymouth last week.
Mr. Cappmagian and his son, of Auckland, have been on a visit to South Westland for the past week. They both speak in glowing terms of the scenery further south. Miss Maureen Minehan, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Minehan, was admitted to the Westland Hospital last week and was operated on for appendicitis. The operation was successful, and the patient is progressing favourably.
