Winbyie was unplaced in the Lincolnsnire Handicap, which was won by Conchita from Great Legend and Miss Burn. Trotting Notes Kate Bingen: Kate Bingen has developed into a fine type of pacer and when more solid will win races. She was the pacemaker in both her races at Reef- ’ ton and was unlucky to bump uf ■ against a horse of Colonel Ax- ■ worthy’s type. She beat all but the I winner in the Burbury Handicap an< ’ 1 returned a substantial dividend. She

was driven well judged races by her |7 youthful trainer, B. Thomson, of I Cobden, who was having his first ex- I perience in a race. Kate Bingen is a five-year-old mare by Great Bingen out of Flying Kate. A Quiet Tip: Kay Francis was a quiet tip for the Burbury Handicap at the Reefton T.C. meeting, but was found wanting at the business end, and in both starts faded right out of the picture when the pace was on. She should, however, prove useful later on. Kay Francis is a four-year-old mare by Wrack out of Princess Pointer. Preamble: Preamble was given his initial racing experience at the Reefton T.C. meeting on Saturday, but failed to go away in either start. Preamble is a fine looking colt by Lee Voyage, from Volo, and with experience should win races. He is owned and trained by J. Marshall, Kotuku. Disappointed: Kingussie was disappointing in both his races at the Reefton T.C. meeting on Saturday. The Jack Potts geldiing was never prominent until the [closing stages and would perhaps be better suited by a longer journey. Eva Truman: I Eva Truman displayed a lot of pace in the Burbury Handicap at Reefton on Saturday, but faded out ; of the, contest over the concluding stages. ■ A Poor Lot: : The unhoppled trotters engaged at Reefton on Saturday were a poor lot, with the exception of Gentleman > Joe, who won a double. Tommy ■ Guy should prove to be the best of : the others. He was twice runner- - up, but was never travelling com- ; fortably. Gentleman Joe had his first start at Rangiora recently. He - is a most reliable trotter, and even t though he went to several breaks owing to his driver forcing him unduly ; on Saturday, he quickly recovered i himself. He is a fine type of trotter who should continue to pay his - way in better company. 1 Went Good Races: i Hon. G. R. Hunter’s four-year-old Jack Potts-FlosSie Harvester gelding, Philario, went two good races . at Reefton, finishing third and second respectively. Will Benefit: A Little Gordon should benefit by his ' e tw’o races at Reefton. He was ale ways up with the leaders and just failed to stick on at the business p end. The aged son of Author Dil- ._ lon should pick up a stake on the g Christmas circuit. d IJust Honest: e | Lucess is just an honest pacer and

that’s all. Unlike most of her stock,, she takes to racing kindly, but does not infuse that extra dash into her efforts that is needed at the close of a two mile journey. Some Start: In the good old days of trotting on the West Coast, horses gave starts up to sixty seconds and won. On one occasion, at Kumara, Jenny II gave Bismark 60 secs, and a beating. Jenny II was a noted performer and won numerous races for J. R. Coburn. In those days, they were al)

saddle, events. Instead of starting from 720 yards behind (the equivalent to-day of 60 secs.), the limit horses were despatched, and then followed those giving away starts at intervals. Broke Up: When making a run round the field at a difficult angle entering the straight in the McMahon Memorial, Ace Pot disappointed by breaking, and this cost the Jack Potts gelding at least second money. He, however, made no bones of the Lawry

g Memorial, winning on his head. - Bred to Stay: t Logan Palm looks like emulating n the deeds of his sire. He stays on t splendidly, and will be one to follow in engagements near at hand. Off 24 yards in the Westport Cup, he is e sure to be hard to beat. e Made No Impression: 1. Three Bells ran two good races at ?, Reefton, but failed to make any img pression on those in front of him. He r -l carried heavy support, being a warm / favourite at each start.
