Disappear in Moscow U.SA. GOVERNMENT DEMANDS FACTS. [Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.] (Received December 12, 7.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, December 11. The Secretary of State, Senator Cordell Hull, has made urgent diplomatic representations to the Russian Ambassador on behalf of Mr. Donald Robinson, the New York writer, and his wife, who have been missing for several days in Moscow. This action followed, on the United States Moscow Embassy sending a report that it is unable to obtain any clues or definite information about them from the Russian I oreign Office. Senator Hull summoned M. Troyanovsky (Soviet Ambassador), and demanded the speediest possible ascertainment of the full facts. The Soviet Ambassador expressed confluence that information would soon be forthcoming. Senator Copeland urged the Senate to take action. He said: “I learn that the United States Government has issued an ultimatum to Moscow, but I don’t want these people to disappear and then to learn, five yeais hence, that they have been killed.” The Senate deferred action after obtaining an assurance that the State Department was "most hopeful.” If the Robinson couple were arrested, it would probably be a cause celebre, as being the first case of its kind, involving Americans, after the United States’ recognition of the Soviet.
