CHRISTMAS EFFORT
For The Unemployed AUCKLAND LEADS THE WAY. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, November 29. A start was made to-day through the Placement Office to employ 212 men under a special subsidised local bodies scheme. During the week, a further fifty will be employed by the Auckland City and Suburban Drainage Board. A drive is being made this week to induce citizens to give everv unemployed man in Auckland at least one day’s work before Christmas. The death occurred suddenly at Wellington, yesterday, states a Press Association message, of Mr Thomas William Boon, Traffic Manager, and Chief Wharfinger for the Wellington Harbour Board. He is survived by a son and two' daughters.
