REEFTON, November 27.
Mrs I. A. Stallard, who, for years past has conducted Dawson’s Hotel, left Reefton this afternoon. She intends spending a couple of weeks with her niece in Cobden, before leaving for Hastings. At the annual Communication of the Grand Lodge of New Zealand, held at Auckland, on November 24th, Mr W. Mitchell of Reefton, was elected a member of the Board of Benovolence, and Mr H. Campbell, a member of the Grand Officers and Boards for 1937-38.
A meeting of the Committee of the Reefton Swimming Club was held at the Baths. Mr F. Hayes presided over a good attendance. The following correspondence was read and dealt with: From West Coast Centre: Advising full particulars and enclosing certificates for use during "Learn to Swim Week” being sponsored by Hon. W. E. Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs, during the period from 6th December to 12th December.—Received, and the secretary was instructed to make application for 12 badges for the use of officials. From Mr T. A. Dellaca, accepting office of Vice-President and enclosing a donation to the Club’s funds. From Inangahua County Council, advising that a deputation from the Swimming Club would be received at 2.30 p.m., on Thursday, 25th inst.—The members expressed general satisfaction that the Council was lending a sympathetic ear to the Club’s request for an improvement in the baths, buildings, etc., and 'several recommendations were made to the deputation. It was decided, in an effort to raise funds, that an old time and modern dance be held in the Band Room on Wednesday, Ist December, and charges were fixed at gents 1/6, and ladies 1/-. A supper will be provided, and a ladies’ committee, consisting of Mesdames Lawry and Eklund and Miss E. Henry was appointed to attend to these arrangements. A decision to conduct an opening Carnival on Saturday afternoon, 4th December, was arrived at, and the Secretary was instructed to invite Greymouth and Westport Club members to attend and to also issue an invitation to the Inangahua Silver Band. Reference was made to the fact that some four years ago, the West Coast Senior Championships were successfully staged by the Club, and, after a lengthy discussion, it was resolved that application be made for the 1938 Championships.
