Blackball Creek Dredge FLOATING OF PONTOON. The Blackball Creek Gold Dredging Company’s pontoons was successfully launched on Saturday afternoon in the presence of the Chairman of Directors, Mr J. W. Hannan, the Dilectors and many visitors. The Company have had the pontoons and machinery of the Brian Boru dredge removed to their claim, the former having been reconstructed and re-designed, while the machinery, which is mostly on the spot, has been overhauled and reconditioned. It is now ready to go aboard. It is anticipated that the dredge will commence operations on the Blackball Ford’s Creek Flat about the end of January. The contractor for the construction of the dredge is Mr W. G. McKay. The dredge is one of the larger types operating in the district, and will deal with from 18,000 to 20,000 yards weekly. The area of approximately 100 acres to be dredged by the company, is from 40 to 45 feet deep, and the plant will dreage to a depth of from 48 to 50 feet. A successful career is now anticipated for the dredge which is in the vicinity of the Argo dredge, one of the most profitable plants installed on the West Coast since the revival of gold dredging.
