MOTOR ADVANCE

EVERY MONTH A RECORD. VIVID CONTRAST WITH 1933. The use of motor vehicles in New Zealand is increasing so rapidly that every month of the past year has been a record for registrations. The Transport Division of the Post Office finds that the highest registrations of any month are made in December, and the figures then fall off to the lowest point which is reached in May of each year. May of this year, was, nowever, a record month, the registrations of new vehicles being 3001, compared with 2420 in May, 1936. The remarkable expansion shown by the latest figures comes more strongly into relief when the motor registrations of last May (3001) are compared with the total of 327 in May, 1933, and 425 in May, 1932. With registrations taking place at these rates the results for the seven month of 1937 (January-July inclusive) compared with the corresponding months of the previous year constitute a series of new records, and demonstrate how hapidly the motor fleets of the Dominion are increasing.—

TOTAL (7 months) .. 24,128 18,802 There is a corresponding activity in connection with changes of ownership of motor vehicles, the Transport Division having had to deal with no fewer than 87,535 notifications of this character during the first seven months of the current year.

1937 1936 New cars 16,957 13,307 New cycles 1,837 1,320 New commer. vehicles 5,334 4,175
