N.Z. POTATO SUPPLY
No Shortage 6,000 TONS IN STORE. (Per Press Association]. CHRISTCHURCH, September 16. “There is no danger of New Zealand homes running short of potatoes,” said Mr. R. B. Tennent, Director of the Fields Division of the Department of Agriculture, to-day. The Department had conducted a survey during the last few days, and this had disclosed that considerably more than 6,000 tons of table potatoes were held in store in the Dominion. This is quite apart from any lines still remaining on the farms. When the Department was issuing permits for the export of potatoes to Uruguay and the Argentine earlier this year, there were some, Mr. Tennent said, who considered that New Zealand was going to be short later on, and the survey recently undertaken was an endeavour to check up on the position. It was now apparent that, with tfre supplies which householders already had, this quantity of potatoes would meet any likely demands.
