A deputation from the Buller Deputies’ Organisation interviewed the Central Committee on matters pertaining to the consolidation of the conditions in and around the mines. Pratt, is still receiving medical attention, due to an injury to his right arm. Mr. J. Young, who was injured in the Stockton Mine some months ago, is now out of hospital and is at homo with his parents in Millerton. A conference will take place on the return of Mr. T. McGhir, manager of the Stockton Coal Company. This conference will be attended by Mr. A. McLagan, representing the National Organisation, and the Union Executive.

A general meeting of the Ngakawau Miners’ Union was held in the Stockton Hall on Sunday morning. Mr. F. Connew presided. Remits were taken for the National meeting which will take place in October. The attendance was a marked improvement on previous meetings and, in future, a serious effort will be made to finalise all general meetings at 12.30 p.m. Nominations for National Council representative resulted in two nominees being put forward: Messrs F. Ireland and H. Campbell, Snr. After the vote had been taken, Mr. Ireland was declared the successful nominee. The question of the conveyance of injured workers from the mine to the surgery, was again brought forward. The executive will go into. this urgent matter with the Manager, on his return from Auckland. The x Union will again make representations to the Minister of Mines, re getting the road through to the mine. If this could be accomplished, that would solve most of the difficulties at present existing. If the members will remember this old adage we may get somewhere: “The fellows who pull on the oars don’t have time to rock the boat.”

The Methodist Women’s Guild held a bazaar on Wednesday night. There was a good display on the stalls. The function was a complete success. Stockton Soccerites were to have played a game with Birchfield on Sunday, but owing to the inclemenl weather, the match was abandoned. The Stockton Ladies’ Hockey team visited Westport on Thursday afternoon to play Ramblers. The game ended in a pointless draw. Stockton will have to play the same team again before the competition is finalised. Masters John and Duncan McGhie, have returned to Nelson College after spending the term holidays with their parents in Stockton.
