REEFTON NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent]. REEFTON, September 15. After heavy rain yesterday and last night, the weather broke fine this morning, with a bright sun shining. There was a heavy fall of snow on the ranges, however, and this had the eftect of creating a very chilly'atmosphere. Mr and Mrs E. Dobson and child arrived last night, via Lewis Pass •Road. ' They left Christchurch at midday and arrived at the part of tne Maruia road blocked yesterday, owing to blasting the hillside at five o’clock, and then transferred to a car on this side and came on to Reefton. Mr Dobson, who is on his annual leave, is Postmaster at Aria, North Island. There was a large attendance at the euchre and dance held at the Convent Assembly Hall last evening, and a very pleasant evening was spent by all. In eachre the lady’s prize was won by Mrs Hodgens and the gent’s by Mr A. Cairns. The prize for the ping pong tourney was awarded to Mr W. Gilroy, after a spirited game. The following is the draw for a sealed hole competition v. Ringer, to he player on September 17th, at the golf links:—Mrs Eklund v. Mrs Duff; Mrs Findlay v. Mrs Sharpe; Airs Kane v. Miss Costelloe; Mrs Wells v. Mrs Discaciati; Mrs Wicken v. Mrs Yellowlees; Mrs Patterson v. Mrs Buist. The draw for September 18th is:—Mrs McVicar v. Miss Farrell; Miss King v. Mrs Sharpe. The winner of the gross score for Qualifying Round of Championship, was Miss King 94. For nett score, Mrs Wicken with 79, won. The following eight qualified for senior championship:—Miss King, Mesdames Sharpe, Wicken, Buist, McVicav, Kane, Duff, Eklund. Intermediate qualifiers, Mesdames Findlay, Patterson, Yellowlees, Farrell. Junior qualifying round to be. played before 17th inst. Same draw as last week.
