LONG SWIM. NEW YORK, August 27. A Poughkeepsie message states that the legless swimmer, Charles Zimmy, passed the half-way mark in his attempt to swim 143 miles nonstop down the Hudson River, after battling with heavy tides. In a message to President Roosevelt, he said:: “I salute you from the waters of the Hudson River." Zimmy, who entered the river at Albany on Tuesday, expected to reach New York in four days. He proposed to eat and sleep in the river. 100 MILES AFTER 100 HOURS A SUBSTANTIAL DINNER. (Received August 29, 7 p.m.) WESTPOINT, (New York) August 29. Zimmy completed one hundred miles shortly after he had been for one hundred hours swimming. He is now travelling two miles an hour He dined on chicken broth, ham sandwich, steak, coffee and ginger ale. ,
