ROUGH WRESTLING

McCREADY AND JUDSON.

[Per Press Association]

CHRISTCHURCH, August 29

When the police intervened in the second round of last night’s wrestling bout between Earl McCready (16.12) and Frank Judson (16.0), McCready was awarded a penalty fall, on which he won the bout. There had been two outbursts of jolting and throwing. When, near the end of the round, the men were struggling in a corner against the ropes, the referee ordered them to break, and, as they separated, Judson struck McCready with two heavy jolts. McCready became aroused at this, and the wrestlers and the referee were entangled for a moment, until a police sergeant present intervened, and the wrestlers were separated. The penalty fall was the only fall of the match,

WESTCOATT BEATS WADE.

NEW PLYMOUTH, August 29.

Opening sensationally, Rusty Westcoatt drop-kicked Glen Wade to gain the only fall, ten seconds from the start of their wrestling bout here. The bout was interesting and vigorous, and Wade was unfortunate not to draw or win.

WOODS BEATS MARSHALL.

DUNEDIN, August 28.

Although each man secured a fall, Joe Woods was awarded a points decision against Floyd Marshall in a wrc-stling bout held last evening. It was a lively contest, Woods making the best use of forearm jolts. In the fifth round, Woods crotched and dumped Marshall, after dropping him with a barrage of jolts, Marshall gaining an equalising fall in the last round with a body press, following a drop-kick. There was no doubt about the decision, as Woods was the aggressor practically throughout.

BLOMFIELD DEFEATS KIRILINKO (Our Own Correspondent). WESTPORT, August 29. The Theatre Royal was packed to the doors on Saturday night at Westport, when Lofty Blomfield (New Zealand) defeated Matros Kirilinko (Russia) by a penalty fall after one of the most exciting and clever bouts seen as yet in Westport. The whole eight rounds were marked by wrestling of the highest order, and the large audience was kept at a high pitch of interest till the final gong. Blomfield threw Kirilinko out of the ring in the sixth round, and the Russian not being able to return within the stipulated time, a fall was given against him. In the final session Blomfield tried hard to trap the Russian in his famous clamp hold, but there were no further falls. The amateur bouts were all of a high standard. Mr C. D. Spencer was referee.
