SHUNTING MISHAP
EX-GREY MAN’S BRAVERY. Mr Walter James Poole, of 57 Ellis Street, Frankton Junction, haa a terrible drdeal on Monday night, when supervising his own extrication from under a truck which had pinned him on the line in the station yards at Hamilton. He was engaged in shunting at 6 p.m. when a line of six empty trucks was thrown across the line and his feet were crushed between a rail and one of the truck wheels. With the aid of timber jacks the truck was righted without further injury to Mr Poole, who remained conscious throughout .and finely directed the operations. Morphia was administered by Dr. G. Phillips, and Mr Poole was removed to hospital by ambulance. Later it was stated that both feet were severely crushed. Mr Poole was a member of the Greymouti: shunting stall for a number of years, being employed here on two different occasions. He left quite recently on transfer to Frankton on the occasion of his marriage. During his stay in Greymouth he was one of the me st popular members of the staff. His transfer was brought about by his inability to secure a house in Greynouth after his marriage, and the full sympathy of the iocal shunting staff goes to him and his wife, in his uirortvnate accident.
