[Our Own Correspondent] HOKITIKA, August 27. The death occurred this morning at her residence, Upper Kokatahi, of a. very old resident, Mps Ruth Mulholland, aged 85 years A native of Williamstown, South Australia, came 62 years ago to the West Coasv, settling at Kokatahi. She leavess a family of five daughters and three sons, to whom the sympathy of a wide circle of friends toll be extended. The billiard match between Clanc McConachy, New Zealand champion, and S. An old coin was found at Kar angarua (South Westland) a few days ago by a °" c^t Copeland Pass Road. Mr W. Scott, ShUe excavating, found three feet below the surface, a penny dated 1773 The coin bore evidence of having been buried. It was forwarded to the Curator of the Wellington Museum. Among many conjectures as to its being buried there is that it was lost by some of Captain Cook’s men during their long sojourn at Dusky Sound.
