MAORI SCHOLARSHIPS. [Per Press Association]. WELLINGTON, August 13. It was announced in the Gazette last night, that two scholarships valued at £35 a year, tenable for two years will be offered for competition this year among Maori boys under the Te Makarini scholarship fund.' One will be a senior scholarship for Maori boys under 16, and the other a junior scholarship for Maori boys in regular attendance at native schools under 14 years of age. The scholarships will be decided by examination. DOCTOR FOUND DYING. CHRISTCHURCH, August 13. Found unconscious in a cabin aboard the Maori on arrival at Lyttelton on Wednesday morning, Dr. Kenneth Entwhistle Bury, formerly of London, died in the Christchurch Hospital to-day. Dr. Bury arrived in New Zealand a few months ago, and was given an appointment at the Chatham Islands, from where he returned to Wellington on August 1. An inquest will be held to-night. FIRE AT HAMILTON.
HAMILTON, August 13. Fire broke out in the store-room of J R McKenzie, Ltd., Hamilton, this morning, and though the flames were soon extinguished, considerable damage was done to the stock, comprising rubber shoes and small goods in rubber. Smoke hampered the efforts of the brigade, who were forced to wear smoke masks. The brigade were successful in confining the fire to a small section of the store, by employing salvage sheets on the lower floor The total insurance cover on building and stock is £15,000. PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION. INVERCARGILL, August 12. The results of the inter-club photographic competition for the Bled ‘ s " loe Cup have been announced. 1 figures are:— . Dunedin Photographic Society, 1015 points, 1; Wellington Camera Club, 1005 points, 2; Christchurch Camera Club, 994 points, 3; Auckland Cam era Club, 953 points, 4; Invercargill Camera Club, 937 points 5; and Camera Pictorialists, Auckland, 922 P The’ championship of the exhibition was awarded to the head of a submitted by Miss J. Nevill, of the Dunedin Society.
