NAZI DRIVE

Against Churches BERLIN, August V. Those arrested outside Pastor Niemoller’s church totalled 40 men and 75 women. Secret police drove up in lorries, wherein they herded the prisoners. It is also announced that sixty-four Protestant pastors are in custody. The trial of Niemoller has been indefinitely postponed, presumably owing to fear of further demonstrations. LONDON, August 9. The “Telegraph’s” Berlin correspondent suggests the postponement of the trial of Niemoller is due to the authorities’ feax’ of acquittal. The correspondent recalls that two prominent Evangelical pastors have been acquitted on similar charges within five weeks. The official reason for the postponement is that further evidence is available and requires examination.
