OBITUARY
MR. W. M. HUGHES’S DAUGHTER, (Received August 10, 10/10 p.m.) LONDON, August 10. Miss Helen Hughes, aged 22, the daughter of Hon. W. M. Hughes, former Australian Prime Minister, died here at. a nursing home, after an operation had been performed for a perforated duodenal ulcer. She had recently had her teeth attended to I and seemed to be in better health, i She had attended the Coronation ! festivities, and formerly had moved in high circles in Britain, Queen Mary showing an interest in her. Australia House has cabled full particulars to Mr W. M. Hughes, and has asked for instructions for his daughter’s burial. A Sydney cable states that news has been received there of the death in London of Miss Helen Hughes, the daughter of Hon. W. M. Hughes, and Dame Mary Hughes. Her death followed a severe abdominal operation. Miss Hughes, who was 22 years old, went to England for the Coronation festivities. Most of her early associations were among high circles in Britain, and during her girlhood, when her father was Australian Prime Minister, great interest was shown her by Queen Mary. -
