WEHEKA NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent] On Sunday, the members of the Fox Glacier Golf Club held a medal match, in which almost the entire membership took part. Favoured by beautifully line weather, a most enjoyable day was spent, and some very good cards were returned. The following were some of the results available: J. Agnew (36) beat A. B. Bremner (36), M. Sullivan (36) heal T. Foley (36), J. P. Kelly (36) beat .1. Johnstone (14), K. Pullman (3G) lost to C. Petrie (32) Miss Knowles (36) lost to Mrs P. Williams (36). The match was set down so that players intending tq. travel to Wataroa next week may be handicapped accordingly. On Sunday afternoon, representatives of the Golf Club, and of the We heka branches of the N.Z. Labour Party and New Zealand Workers’ Union met to tender a farewell L Mr Chas. Petrie. Mr Petrie, who was president of both the latter organisations and a very enthusiastic member of the Golf Club, leaves this week on transfer to Bruce Bay. In wishing Mr Petrie bon voyage, Mr J. P. Kelly, on behalf of the Labour Party, toucheci briefly on the good work that Mi Petrie had done as president of the branch, and trusted that he woulu become an active member at Bruce Bay. Other speakers were Mr K. Don (N.Z.W.U.) and Messrs T. Foley and H. P. Brookes (Golf Club). In replying, Mr Petrie thanked the gathering for their kindly remarks, am said that he would still take a kee. interest in the Labour Party and Union affairs. He also hoped to be instrumental in starting a Golf Club at the Bay. The Fox River Social Club’s weekly euchre tournament held at Fox River Camp on Thursday evening, was won by Mrs R. Morant, with Jim Harrison second. Mr T. Stephens was the winner of the aggregate. Mr A. J. Watt, foreman of works at Weheka, left on a holiday visit tc Christchurch. Mr J. Sullivan has returned to Weheka after a lengthy stay in Hokitika. Mr R. I. McGregor spent the week end at Bruce Bav.
