CHILD DROWNED

FALLS INTO PATEA RIVER. [Per Press Association]. NEW PLYMOUTH, August 9. Falling into the Patea River today, Leah Margaret Simmons, the two and a half year old child of Mr. and Mrs. C. Simmons, was drowned. A group of children were playing on the river bank when Leah overbalanced, and fell into the water. Her body was recovered fifty yards downstream. The child was playing witn the others on the bank of the river, near her parents’ home, and, although the body was soon recovered, resuscitative measures were without avail.
