BOXING
LINDESAY v. MUIR. FORMER WINS BY K.O. IPer Press Association], AUCKLAND. August 9. A professional heavyweight boxing contest here to-night between Dennis Lindesay, of Auckland, and George Muir, of Southland, ended in a knockout win for Lindesay in the third round. The winner had a decided advantage in weight, as he turned the scales at 13st 91b in comparison to Muir’s 12st 51b. It was evident from the start that Lindesay was the harder puncher, and in the first round he rocked his opponent with a left hook, followed by a right cross. These blows caused Muir to hold on, and he was again ordered to break after taking three hard rips to the ribs. Muir swung wildly in the second round, whereas Lindesay measured his punches much better. Following a right to the head, Lindesay sent in a stinging right to the solar plexus, which sent the Southlander down for a count of seven. Shortly after rising, he was floored again with a right cross, the gong saving him from taking the count. Early in the third round, Lindesay attacked his opponent with a succession of left and right hooks to the head, and then finalised matters with a right cross.
