Opera House “TARZAN ESCAPES.” 1 Johnny Weissmuller mid Maureen O’Sullivan me now al the Opera , House in their Inlesl romance of the 1 jungle. “Tarzan Issenpos," a thrilling , adventure drama of the king of the wilderness and his bride from the ( civilised world. jhe cast includes ' Benita Hume as Rita, William Henry ' as the faithful cousin, John Buckler ' as the treacherous animal trainer, and Herbert Mu nd in in the comedy 1 role. Hundreds appear in the battles between elephants and savage warriors, in the fight between the white ' safari and the giant bats and in other breath-taking episodes. “KEEP YOUR SEATS, PLEASE.” Uncontrollable merriment —born of a hilarious mixture of comic adven- ■ ture and side-splitting situations, characterises the new George Formby ■ and Florence Desmond offering, “Keep Your Seats, Please,” which on Monday starts an extended season at the Opera House. With “No Limit” still fresh in the minds of fans, the popularity of this new comedy couple will be increased further by this comedy. For its sheer explosive laughter, there can be found no equal. George Formby is seen as George Withers, who contorts his unhappy but finally successful way through a sustained search for one of a set of chairs which holds a fortune. Unfortunately, the chairs have been auctioned off to separate purchasers—thus, he spends his whole time looking for THE chair. He has a rascally partner, and, further, is persecuted by an unscrupulous lawyer—also seeking the chair. But no description of the story could begin to convey the riotous laughter created. So sustained is the pace of the comedy and so winning the personality of the comedian, that “Keep Your Seats, Please” must be voted an Al entertainment —good for all the family. Mention must be made of Fiona Stuart, a child actress, who, in the role of Binkie, gives a lovable and wholly delightful portrayal as Florence Desmond’s little niece. Binkie, just, three years old, will completely win every heart, and it is predicted she will carve the same niche for herself in screen fame as her famous prototype, Shirley Temple. The cast also includes such notable artistes as Gus McNaughton, Harry Tate, and t Ethel Coleridge. Regent Theatre “RAMONA.” The most glorious love story ever written, “The Rainbow Beauty of Old California! A cast of thousands! two years to make! Flashing action on a far flung scale! The, most import- . ant picture in years! Such is the picture “Ramona” which opens at the Regent Theatre, commencing at this afternoon’s matinee. Truly~a new milestone in motion picture production is established in this. Twentieth Century Fox’s production of Helen Hunt Jackson’s famous novi el, featuring Loretta Young and Don Ameche supported by Kent Taylor and Katherine De Mille. Produced entirely in technicolor, Director Henry King and Art Director Duncan Cramer handled their pallettes with the greatest of care and the finished result is the most beautiful and natural hues ever brought to the screen. Scenic beauty is represented by one of the loveliest vistas in the world —the San' Jacinto Mountains in California—where the outdoor ‘shots’ were photographed. “Ramona” is by far the most romantic story ever incorporated in a motion picture. Helen Hunt Jackson’s story is recognised as one of the immortal idylls of American literature and with Loretta Young and Don Ameche in the title roles, the film will long be remembered as one of the screen’s greatest triumphs. POPEYE CLUB. Jackie Cooper, the idol of all children, plays the lead in “Dinky,” the picture chosen for presentation at this morning’s matinee. Besides, there will be comedies, Popeye cartoons, the usual free seats, and not to forget the girls’ skipping competition. MILITARY BALL. The so far undefeated Springboks show promise of making their present

tour a bigger and better one than their last, so also the fourth annual military ball, to be held in Schaef’s Hall, August 17, under the supervision of a hard-working committee, shows promise of being a bigger and better ball over last year’s brilliant attempt. A well-planned decorative hall, two of the best orchestras to be procured, Marina and Marley’s, novelties, balloons, paper hats, and, in addition de luxe supper at Harker’s, will guarantee to make this, the volunteers’ latest effort, the ball of the year. Another novelty has been introduced in that a bugle call will precede each sitting of supper, and will without doubt be an added attraction. Three successful military balls have been held in the past—help them to make this a bigger success than ever. Come early for the first sitting of supper tickets, only a limited number available. There will be fun for all at the military ball on August 17. COBDEN CONVENT BALL. A guinea Monte Carlo, hundreds of novelties, and a dainty sit-down supper, are only some of the many attractions at the Cobden Convent Ball on Tuesday next, at the Cobden Gymnasium. Marley’s Orchestra of six instruments will supply the music and the dance programme is absolutely guaranteed to please. All dance-goers are cordially welcome.
