£40,000 SUBSIDY

FOR FRUITGROWERS. EARLY PAYMENT WANTED. [Per Press Association]. WELLINGTON, August 5. The Government is undertaking to assist the fruitgrowers by making £40,000 available to\ subsidise the wages costs incurred in connection with sales on the'local market. The matter was discussed at the Fruit growers’ Federation Conference to day. It was decided to suggest to the Government that a flat rate per case be paid to the growers, irrespective of the prices received, and that Hawke’s Bay and other districts in a similar position be paid on half o last year’s production. The conference also adopted a remit urging that a progress payment be made forthwith from the £40,00C to enable the growers to retain their staffs. GUARANTEED DAIRY PRICE. WELLINGTON, August 5. _ A dairy produce prices order is published with the Gazette to-night, enabling the Government to continue the payment of the present prices for butter and cheese, as from August 1, until such time as the Guaranteed Prices Committee’s report is received by the Government and new prices are fixed.
