N.Z. SET BIG TASK

BY GLAMORGAN 371 to Get With 7 Wickets (From the Special Correspondent of the United Press Assn., with Team.) ‘ SWANSEA, August 2. New Zealand spent a fatiguing day chasing the leather, in brilliant sunshine. on the second day of their second match with Glamorgan. The outfield was fast and the wicket hard. Dyson and Davies, the opening pair, established a fine partnership which yielded 157 runs. Smart later hit brilliantly, his score including ten fours and three sixes. New Zealand’s weakened attack stood the testing creditably. Vivian, practically inexhaustible, bowled almost continuously from one end, despite an injured bowling hand. He had one deadly spell just after breaking the first wicket partnership, taking three wickets for four runs in four overs. Lamason and Moloney were steady for long periods. Carson was effective with the second new ball. The casualty list is growing. Kerr retired with a poisoned heel. Tindill fielded a fine catch. Enthusiastic Welshmen from all parts of the principality thronged Saint Helen’s Ground, where Swansea beat the All Blacks. The attendance was 12,000, easily eclipsing that at the Manchester test. New Zealand batted for a little over an hour, and began a difficult task determinedly, but three wickets fell in quick succession to the slow lefthander, Davies. Scores: — GLAMORGAN—Ist. Innings.
