Racing Notes Bachelor King: Bachelor King, who raced as a colt during the season, and has since been added to the list, was the best two-year-old winner of the year for Takanini with three wins and stakes amounting to £685. It is seldom a short-pedigreed horse is successful in juvenile events, but by the weights he carried in the autumn his future looks bright for the coming season. He was in the money on 11 occasions.

High Quality: High Quality was the most successful Takanini jumper this season, winning four races worth £BO2. Like Lap Up, he was not seen to advantage when the important jumping events

of ’ the winter were run on heavy tracks. The form of High Quality in the South Island will be watched with interest. Lap Up: Lap Up, who won two events over hurdles and £340 in stakes this season, was unfortunate that in most of the races he contested the wet conditions were against him.- Having had a spell Lap Up is doing road exercise preparatory to returning to the track. Spearcourt: Spearcourt, in his first season as a hurdler, won four races worth £440. Spearcourt has been indulging in road work lately, but will resume serious training in the near future. Great Star: Great Star has reappeared on the tracks at Riccarton. The Solferino gelding was bred in 1925, and, as there is no hint of unsoundness about him, he may be given further racing in the spring. As he has been racing regularly since 1927 and has attained to the best handicap class, it is probable Great Star has the record for length of service on the flat in such events. Epris: As a result of his victory m the Claremont Handicap at Timaru, Epris will probably advance in favour for the Winter Cup, which he won two years ago with 8.0. His form this season has not been up to his best standard, but he is evidently in good trim again and may be capable of a good performance. However, he is likely to find the opposition much stronger than he met last Saturday. Floodtide: Flood Tide was a good performer for Takanini during the season which closes on Saturday, having won three races worth £1375. He is making excellent progress and should be in great heart by the time he leaves for Australia. Trotting Notes Kaitawa in J. Gee’s Team: J. Gee has received an addition to his team in the West Coast pacer Kaitawa, by Nelson Bingen from Nellie Scott. Last season Kaitawa won races in Reefton and was placed at Nelson, but his best efforts this season were second in the Reefton Handicap off 3.38 to Linklight and third in the Oamaru Handicap, off the same mark, to Connenora and Bell Grattan. His dam, Nellie Scott, was a fine performer at all distances and especially good in saddle. She was by Harold Direct from a Kentucky mare. Kaitawa’s assessments for the new season are 2.24, 3.1 3.39 ana 4.55.
