GREY COUNTY COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING. At monthly meeting of the Grey County Council on Thursday evening, there were present: Crs. J. Ryall, 11. G. Carter, A. McDonnell, A. Robinson, J. Mulcaire, W. T. Ogilvie and A. Don. nellan. Cr. Ryall was voted to the chair in the absence of the Chairman (Cr. J". W. Hannan). The Engineer’s recommendations for applications for Public Works grants, weie adopted as approved. Accounts anioupnting to £1,763 7s were passed for payment. The Under Secretary, Public Works Department, forwarded plioelamation taking land for road in Block IX, Arnold S.D. 'The Minister of Publie "Works wrote stating that he could not agree Io tin inciea -e of the £2 for £1 subsidy for the Crooked River Road. —The Engineer’s reply to the Minister was tipproved. e. The Chairman, Main Highways Board, wrote that the question o.f tarsealing the Kuma'm Road would be considered when the current year’s estimates were being prepared. The District Engineer, Public Works Department, wrote in reference to the five-year plan for metalling roads. The Hon. W. E. Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs, in acknowledging | the Council’s letter re amalgamation, said that he would consider the Conn, oil’s views. T. E. Coates, application for approval o f subdivision plan of Section 42, Block VII, Mawheranui S.D., was- approved. A subdivisional plan for Section 1410, Block IX. Arnold S.D., forwarded by Guinness and Kitchingham. was approved. The Blackball School Committee ask. ed that nepairs be affected to the Toad to the school in Kilgour Road, and the. request was acceded to on the motion of Crs. Mulearc and: Robinson. T. " Hennessy, Barrytown, applied for permission to build a- hut on the real reserve at Barrytown. It was decided to offer no objection. J. Hartshorne, asked that a. light be installed at (Blackball. —The matter was referred to the. Engineer to 'report to the next meeting. The N-Z. Counties’ Association ad- , vised that the annual conference would be held at Wellington on August 25th. The Makara County Council asked that the Council support a request that a poll of ratepayers be taken before amalgamation was affected. The'.fl*'--'ter was. received, th., Chairman staling that Hon. Mr. P-irry had intimated that he would not allow referendums. C. Hairtill's application for permit sion to erect cottage on Reserve f.i Barrytown, was granted.
