Mr P. J. McLean returned by yesterday’s express from Christchurch. Mrs A. Rodger arrived yesterday from Timaru. sMr G. AV. Matheson arrived from Auckland. Mr A. Kyle returned yesterday from Christchurch. Messrs J. S. Robertson and ;W. T. Ogilvie returned yesterday from Christchurch. Mr R. Briscoe, who has been the guest of Mr and Mrs H. Harvey left yesterday on return to Wanganui. to Mr G. Beary, Railway yard foreman, Christchurch, left yesterday on return to Christchurch. Miss Mona Johnson, who has been an inmate of Oranui Hospital, has been discharged. A London cablegram stated that Dr. Cyril Norwood, ex-headmaster of Harrow, had left on a tour of New Zealand and Australia. Mr and Mrs Arthur Russell, who have been on a holiday’ visit to the West Coast left yesterday on return to Hastings. A Wellington Press Association telegram yesterday, announced the death of Mr E. A. Shrimpton, formerly chief telegraph engineer. Mrs Af. J- Phillips and Miss CPhillips returned yesterday after an extended visit, to Timaru and Invei cargill. Miss Ursula Callaghan, of the teaching staff of the Blaketown school, has resigned, in view of her approaching marriage, and will relinquish her position next week.
Passengers by yesterday’s express to Christchurch included Miss J. Ky>e, Miss M. O’Reilly (on roturn), Mr 1Mclntosh, Mrs E. V. Arthur (to Christ-church),-Miss D. Mayo, Miss J. Blocksage (to Wellington).
Mr A. Rubbo, marriage takes place' shortly to Miss E. Collins, of Reefton, was yesterday met by the management and staff of Greymoutu Motors Ltd. On behalf of Mr and Mrs Steer, Mr W. Steer presented Mr Rubbo with an. afternoon tea service, and on behalf of the staff Mr Sansom asked ■his acceptance of a fireside chair. Mr Rubbo suitably responded.
In view of her approaching . mar. riag e to Mr Austin Mimner, Miss P. Wa'tson was yesterday the recipient of a oak Westminster chiming clock from Messrs Ashby Bergh and Coy. Ltd., and fellow members of the staff. The pre. sentation was made bv Mr G. Ashby, and other speakers were Messrs F. Congreve, W. A. Lindsay and G. Her. ring.
In a private hom e at Mount Eden, Auckland, on Wednesday night, Meyell “Lofty” Blomfield, professional wrestler, was married to Lily Balenzuela, of Coogee, Sydney. The ceremony was performed by Rev. F. J. Parker, a Methodist minister. Only intimate friends were present*. Th e wedding breakfast was held at the Returned Soldiers’ Hall, Point Chevalier, where a large number of friends were present. The wedding cake was decorated with a representation of a wrestling ring.
Air J. Wood of Cobden, who recently’ celebrated his 60th birthday, was .last evening entertained at the residence of Air and Airs IW. B. Connor, Chapel Street, by the members of St. Patrick’s choir, of which hg is the conductor. Rev. Father Long, who presided, congratulated Air Wood on the attainment of his 60th year and on behalf of khe choir members presented him with a pair of leather gloves as a token of their esteem and gratitude. He eulogised Air Wood’s -work in the choir and thanked him for his interest in its welfare. Air Wood replied, thanking Father Long and the members for th e kind sentiments expressed. Several toasts were honoured and musical items rendered. A dainty supper was served.
