WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
GREYMOUTH MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Grey-, mouth W.I. was held on Tuesday when Mrs A. V. Oliver (vice president) presided in the absence of th e president, there, being a large attendance. . An apology for absence, owing to indisposition was received Pom the secretary. The meeting opened with the Institute song. Mrs Walter, a former member sent greetings from'Nelson. Miss Minnie Fong who is on furlough from China, gave an interesting talk on China. Mrs Oliver moved a vote of thanks for the talk. Mrs Oliver gave an interesting out-, line if the recent farmers’ tour of' th p North Island, dealing particularly with the Hamilton Winter Show, and the fourteen Women’s Institute bays containing Institute work. She said that she was endeavouring to secure a box of articles of exhibits from the Show for local exhibition: Mrs Oliver was thanked for her talk. The demonstrations were work on the seagrass stool, commenced by Mrs N. Thompson, and tin foil pictures by Mrs Tilleyshort. One new member was admitted. In the competition for a kettle holder Mrs A. Thompson Was first, Mrs Morland second. Mrs Morland was first for the best d’oyley, Mrs Oliver being second. For the best bloom Mrs A. Thompson was first and Mrs Black second. Mrs Thompson secured first and second for the best native berry plant. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Brown and Perrin and Misses Williams, Bassett and Oliver.
