MANY THEFT CHARGES. AGAINST YOUTH. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, June 2. William Donghi, aged 18, a labourer, was i eouunlitted for sentence to the Supreme Court at Auckland on three charges of breakinig, entering, and theft, to which he pleaded guilty. He was remanded to appear at Palmerston North on June 9 on further charges, and it was stated ther e were about nine charges at Auckland. WELLINGTON, June 2. Sentence of six months’ hard labour on each of five charges, two of the sentences to be cumulative, was imposed by the Magistrate, Air Mosley, on George Crompton Mansfield,' 43, labourqr for obtaining money and goods by valueless cheques. He was described as a particularly bad offender in cases of this sort AUCKLAND, June 2. At the first prosecution ,■ brought at Auckland for failure to h;ive a fieate of fitness for a motor vehicle, Richard Thomas Carroll was fined £1 for having no certificate, 33s for dr.v. ing without a license, and £2 for giving a fals e name and ae dress. The police said tffiat defendant when questioned about 1.0 p ni., on April .24th, gave his name ns Robinson. When seen later the same night, he was found to hav e a driver’s license for 1933-34 in the name of Carroll. Asked by the Magistrate, why he did not have a certificate for'the car, defendant said' it was an old c,ai. which he bought for £4, and did not | enquire wihcvlie’i 1 there wi-s a corn. , fieate for it. “How much have I got to pay? asked defendant, when fined. _ “You have to pay altogether £■', wh'cli is more than the pri'-A of the ear,” replied the Magistrate.
