With a match versus Canterbury definitely arranged for June 12, and the approach, pf ' homeland-home ganfes versus Coast and the Seddon Shield contests also in the offing, interest in th. choice of 'the Buller side' is at a high pitch' and followers of the sport are itching to know what the decision of the sele&o'rs will be. , Discussing the question with a prominent supporter of a local club'the latter was of opinion that his team should have big representation and in support of his argument, mentioned that in all their six' mact'hes this season their lines have not been crossed. The'sanie parochial view can be read in the efforts of members of other clubs to pick the side. But should the club come before th,, Buller district? It is not a club team that is required, but one. thoroughly representative of the Rugby strength of the whole Bui? ler Union'. Indications at the moment suggest that the selectors will have, plenty of material at their disposal to put a strong sid p in the field, inore than a dozen forwards all capable of measuring up to representative standard could easily be named, but with Harding, Brown and Hudson all doubtful as a result of injuries, the task of the- selectors is going to be made more difficult. A fine set of serummagers, however, could be chosen from Wilson, Johnson, McCormack, Smart. Orman, Lake, Mason, Clarkin, K. Corrie, Kaye, J. Stewart, Anderson and Moreton. Karamea will be seen in action on th. King’s Birthday and it is understood the team lias more than one player with claims to inelus- . -•• jA '■ ' • ■

ion in a Buller team. Andy Dunn (Rover custodian) should hav e little opposition in securing th e full-back .position. He kicks with judgment and direction, take's a ball well and is a sound tackler. Powick (Westport) is also playing well but is short of experience. He is a good young ’un in the making. D. Strachan has played himself into the half-back position and seems to be the only logical claimant for the pivot ’s job. He is nippy and alert and though the season is young yet he has more than 60 points to his credit. Buller’s main concern will be the placing of the other backs, especially th,, wingers. Strachan and Stewart should have claims for the jobs near the scrum. Robinson and Ahern have credentials for the centre position, whilst as wingers, th© selectors’ choice should be confined to Bud .Smith. Butterfield, J. Hill and Beveridge. Buller can place a strong side on the field and supporters are looking forward to the representatives having a very successful season. The side will be chosen after thy trial game! on the King’s Birthday, so novice selectors will not have long to wait to have their curiosity satisfied. .
