THE WEATHER
(Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, May 31. The weather report and forecast are as follows: — General situation; An anti-cyclone is crossing the Dominion to-day, but a rather 'intense depression covers the wes'tem and southern portions of the Tasman Sea. Forecast: Winds variable at first over the northern half of the North Island; otherwise northerlies prevailing. light to 1 moderate generally, but later becoming s'trong about and south of Cook Strait, and backing to southwesterly during to-morrow in the far southSeas (N-Z- waters): Moderate to rather rough south of Hoki'tika, and later rising generally south of Capo Egniont, and also about Cook and lo veaux Straits; elsewhere, slight to moderate. ; 1 Eastern Tasman Sea: Northerly Winds, light 'to moderate in the northern portions, with slight to moderate seas; becoming strong with rough seas in the southern portion. Weather fair to fine in most districts, but rain is developing soon in South Westland and the far south, and unsettled conditions and rain ar e extending to most areas with a westerly aspect within 'the next 24 to 06 hours. Temperatures mild.
