It hasi been decided to make the revised.' rates of pay retrospective to December 21, 1936, and any adjustmen s, consequent upon the declarat on ot the basic wage, w>H be operative as from November! 2, 1936- . , “The effect of the changes decided upon,’’ said Mr Sullivan,, “is. in general, to bring the pay and allowances of the Railway Refreshment Branch employees into line, as far as practicable, with the provisions of the New Zealand tea rooms and restaurant workers’ award-’’ In those instances where the Railway Department’s 1931 rates of pay exceed the award rate of 1931, the rate will be retained.
