The King’s Cup for the eight-oared championship of Australia was rowed at Murray bridge to-day, over a course of three miles. It resulted as follows: — South Australa 1 New South Wales 2 Western Australia 3 South Australia won by a length; with half a length between second and third. The time was fifteen minutes fifteen seconds. Tasmania were the early leaders, but South Australia were in command at half a mile, closely attended by New South Wales. Nearing the finish, South Australia staffed off repeated challengers by New South Wales, and won in determined fashion by a length. Victoria and Queensland tailed off lhe race. This was South Australia’s first victory in fourteen years. New South Wales had hitherto won the King’s Cup for four years in succession. The Australian sculling. championship was retained by the New South Wales holder, Cecil Pearce, who won easily by eight lengths from the Victorian, L. A. Purves. with the South Australian, A. Munoth, third. The time was fifteen minutes ten seconds for 21 miles. Pearce has now won the] sculls for the ninth year in succession.
