JAPAN’S PROGRESS A RIVAL OF CANADA. TOKTO, April 22. Japanese trawlers of an aggregate tonnage of 224 thousand. operating mostly in Australian and in other foreign waters, last year had a record catch, valued at 6.727,000 yen. which was 341,000 yen below the total for 1935. Menwhile, the exports of tinned sardines from Japan from January to March were 47,000 eases, or 48 per cent, above the 1936 total. Japan is severely competing with the Canadian tinned fish exporters.
