ANZAC DAY
TO-MORROW’S ARRANGEMENTS
The twenty-second anniversary of the Gallipoli landing will be celebrated to-morrow, Anzae Day.
At Greymouth, in common with other towns, the usual observance will take place. The principal service will be that at the Town Hall at 2.30 p.m. where Ven. Archdeacon J. A. Jermyn will preside, and Rev. J. A. Parry (of th e Baptist Church) will make the occasional address. Returned soldiers of the Great War and veterans of all wars will parade at the corner of Herbert and Mackay Streets at 2 p.m. and with Territorials, will marsh in procession, headed by the Municipal and Civic Bands, to the Town Hall, by way of Boundary Street, Mawhera Quay, Tainui and Mackay Streets. After the main service, the parade will march to the Cenotaph, where wreaths will be placed on the Memorial, and the Last Post sounded. The Executive of the Returned Soldiers’ Association will then proceed to the Hospital to place a wreath on the Memorial Tablet, and to the Karoro Cemetery, where a poppy of remembrance will be . placed on each of the 56 graves of j returned soldiers. The United Foot-ji ball Club will conduct their usual ser-J vice at 10 a.m. at the United Pavilion® where wreaths will be placed on Honours Board. At St. Patrick’s Church special ers for the dead will be said at Masses. An Anzae memorial concert will held in the Town Hall evening at 8.15 o’clock. The annual appeal of the Grey turned Soldiers’ Association for lief of distress among returned iers and their families in the form of a sale of poppies in the streets was made yesterday. Poppy Day, and the sale will be continued to-day.
